In order to find a way to meet the ongoing demand for science nights, we are so excited to be able to offer our first, large-capacity science night! In collaboration with Mad Science we will hold a Science Night in the gym and Makerspace on November 6 from 6:15- 8:00.
This event is FREE, but students must be pre-registered (see the last paragraph below).
Mad Science will begin with a 45-minute assembly for all registered students and their parent
s. The theme is Up, Up, and Away. The Mad Science presenter will teach about the many uses of the state of matter – gas. This assembly will include a magic trick and a series of experiments. Experiments are likely to involve, air, hot air, air pressure, moving air, smoke and suction. After the assembly, students and parents can engage in experiments at multiple science stations. Several will be run by parent volunteers (THANK YOU volunteers!!!). In addition, Mad Science will host two stations – Scientopia and Sublimation Station. The descriptions of these stations, from the Mad Science Flyer are included below.
Science, science and more science! Kids and parents alike are excited to learn the
science basics behind old-fashioned “cell” phones, whirling tornadoes, clackers, static
chambers, sound waves and more! A great collection of hands-on experiments for
children to explore.
Students always marvel at the scientific properties of dry ice! Kids will be amazed by
bubbles that float on a layer of sublimated gas; will enjoy cooling off under a dry ice
shower and witness balloons being “magically” inflated. Top that off with the spinning
“Hero’s engine” powered by, you guessed it, dry ice!
VERY IMPORTANT – An adult must accompany all registered students to this event. In such a large setting, we cannot be responsible for the supervision of any children except our own. Please print a copy of your signup genius email confirmation to use a s a ticket to show at the door. We are not able to accept last minute registrations.
